Netflix is officially launching its new Netflix Gaming service on all platforms, including iOS. The service has been rolling out to Android devices for a little over a week now, and the company has now announced that it’s coming to iOS immediately.
Announced in a tweet from the NetflixGeeked Twitter account, the popular streaming platform is geared up to bring its Netflix Gaming service to all mobile devices around the world. Unlike the gradual rollout that we saw with Android devices, it looks like the service is coming all at once to iOS devices tomorrow.
Of course, we knew that the new Netflix Gaming service was coming, at least in some form, to iOS devices. What we didn’t know, however, was if the platform was going to be able to use its mobile app as a sort of storefront for displaying the games it has available on iOS.
Apple has very strict regulations regarding apps on iOS devices. All games must go through individual screening before they can be available on Apple devices.
Additionally, Apple has previously prevented third-party apps from acting as a storefront for games on iOS, something that Netflix clearly plans on doing tomorrow.
While it will be acting as a sort of storefront for the five games that it currently offers, Netflix’s games will still be delivered through the App Store. We’ll have to wait and see if Netflix does anything different with this new feature on iOS, or if it functions the same way that it already does on Android devices.
